CPSC Approves a Successor Drain Cover Standard PDF Print E-mail

asme112The Consumer Product Safety Commission voted unanimously to approve ANSI/APSP-16 2011 as the successor standard to the ANSI/ASME A112.19.8 drain cover standard mandated by the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act. The Commission determined the new standard, ANSI/APSP-16 2011, was in the public interest, and incorporated this standard into its regulations. This means that, effective September 6, 2011, drain covers manufactured, distributed, or entered into commerce in the United States must conform to the requirements of ANSI/APSP-16 2011.

CPSC Recalls Drain Covers PDF Print E-mail

On May 26, 2011 the CPSC and eight pool and spa drain cover manufacturers issued a voluntary recall affecting over one million covers manufactured in the United States. Pool and spa drain covers manufactured by A&A Manufacturing, AquaStar Pool Products Inc., Color Match Pool Fittings, Custom Molded Products, Hayward Pool Products, Pentair Water Pool and Spa, Rising Dragon USA, and Waterway Plastics. Issues concerning the testing and certification of these products to reduce body entrapment have been cited.
